I finished reading this book yesterday. It’s a very good book. Felt like writing something about this.
Peace of mind follows those who have a clear sense of his priorities. One doesn’t have to meditate all day to achieve nirvana. A clear sense of priority and integrity can bring peace.
Never judge someone based on some little knowledge about that person. Oneday the writer was sitting in a subway car. Suddenly a man with two little kids entered. The children were yelling back and forth to which the stranger seemed very reluctant. The author got annoyed and asked the man to control them. The man replied that their mother died a while ago. Now the author saw those kids from a different point of view and said that he was sorry.
Private victories precede public victories. One needs to win over oneself by investing time in the Production Capability. The Production will come automatically. Effectiveness lies in this P/PC balance. You can force a child to clean up his room. This only brings out the production but not the PC. If you can make him to clear his room cheerfully without being harsh, that’s a paradigm of P/PC balance.
If the ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step we take just gets us to the wrong place faster. We may be very efficient, but not effective. Management focuses on efficiency, but leadership focues on choosing the right wall. Efficient management deals with putting first things first, while leadership decides which things come first.
We have a lot more to learn from those who have failed than those who have become successful. Failures come with extreme adversity. Extreme adversity causes us to stand back, look at our lives, and ask ourselves some deep questions of life.
An Emotional Bank Account is a metaphor that describes the amount of trust that’s been built up in a relationship. Building and repairinh relationships are long-term investments.
One of the most important ways to manifest integrity is to be loyal to those who are not present.
It’s always best to choose win/win deals. Win/win is a frame of mind. It sees life as a cooperative, not comparative arena. It requires character to choose win/win over win/lose. The spirit of win/win cannot survive in an environment of competition and contests.
Always try to be on the same side of the table rather than being on the opposite side while we are communicating. This type of communication brings solution, while the latter type comes with withdrawals.
Unity or oneness is complimentariness, not sameness. Sameness is uncreative and boring. The essence of synergy is to value the differences.
This book comes with very good insights into our human life. I would recommend it if anyone is interested to experience a change in perception of how we see and want to achieve success.
