Should consciousness be preserved for a long period of time?
What difference will we see if we remain bounded in this space-time fabric for an infinite amount of time?
A particular consciousness will see more or less the same versions of a particular event unfolding regardless of the space and the time at which the event is observed. If that is the case, then what difference does it make to a conscious being if it exists for hundreds of years?
